LinkedIn

For the millions without a job, finding employment is hard. It takes an emotional and financial toll. On average, people spend 4-6 months looking for their next job.

I initiated and led this major design overhaul of the LinkedIn Jobs ecosystem. It sought to ease the job hunting process, creating a more cohesive experience for connecting job seekers to relevant opportunities and leveraging their professional network.

Challenge

The process to search, discover, and apply for a job on LinkedIn felt fragmented and ineffective. It didn’t do enough to surface the right opportunities, required a significant time investment from the job seeker, and contributed to already low member sentiment.

Process

We engaged the research team to uncover key insights into job seeking behaviors. We focused primarily in three areas: their current process, how they search for jobs, and assess opportunities. Following the research, we defined broad user personas, identified pain points, mapped core worklfows, and developed various concepts addressing these needs.

Results

With a stronger focus on delivering personalized recommendations, surfacing your competitive edge, and unlocking hiring insights, this new experience provides the right tools to connect you to your next opportunity.

This work has been shared publicly and still in progress. A revamped job details page, the first project milestone, was delivered late 2016. Early metrics indicated 2x engagement and a non trivial increase in quality job applications.
